On our blog for our lovely readers, a detailed encounter with the collections to be showcased at the prestigious PFDC Sunsilk Fashion week aka PSFW!
We have generated a casual chit chat with the designer for our readers to better understand the concept of a Fashion Show, their collection and the general trend of it all. Along with this some delicious images especially for our readers to enjoy whats coming!
Here's what the talented designer Maheen Kardar of KARMA has to say about his collection at the Fashion Week!
- What does the Designer/Label wish to change in terms of trends with this collection.
We are introducing the super glam, desi summer ott-ness..!!! A return to the roots, embracement of the ethnic and celebration of culture in a sexy, bold and contemporary fashion..!!! Please your desi drama queen inner goddess ladies..!!

Super excited to see the overload of colours!!
- How does this collection define the growth of the label itself and it's market.
We have had three consecutive modern and west inspired collections from Joy, Suessical and Gatsby so for us this is a departure from usual but very true to our style ethos. Also, considering that our market, our clients and our buyers are all from the subcontinent, this collection caters to them exclusively.
- Does having a Fashion Week/ Fashion Show really help?
Absolutely. It keeps us all on our toes, despite how long we have been in the industry, promotes the business of fashion which needless to say is why we are all here and gives a phenomenal platform to our new talent. They are lucky to have PFDC at the early start of their careers providing such a dynamic team and platform.

- How important it is for an average woman to be able to buy a more commercial/wearable version of the collection pieces and how do you intend to do this.
It is the main thing. Talent as a designer in my books only counts if it converts into sales. The clothes need to be in people's closets..!!! The collections for the ramp are always runway pieces that get translated into more wearable versions for the stores. As we speak, the Karma Ki Rajesthani Kahani collection is in mass production as outfits, jumpsuits, ready to wear saris and separates to hit the racks by the 1st of May. One of our main international buyers have already viewed and pre bought the complete collection. Therefore translating into sales is the only natural direction.
- As a team what are your goals when designing a collection.
Remaining true to the Karma ideology and to what we are feeling as a Design Director and design team for that season.
Thorough execution and that wow element
- 2 things that make the average Pakistani girl go gaga for the collection.
Wearability and glamour
- What is your inspiration for this collection and why?
Karma Ki Rajesthani Kahani derives its inspiration from the soul, spirit and sensuality of the Rajesthan. The collection sees vibrant intense color juxtaposed with contemporary silhouette and captures the essence of luxuriant Rajesthani style. Jewel chunri, signature screen print, old world gota, embroidered Phulkari, glittery sequin and mirrors find shape and form in the lush roses, grand peacocks, wicked parrots and majestic howdah clad elephants in our embellishment story. This summer, Karma Pink celebrates a return to the roots with ethnic glamour, trademark collectable separates, and encourages the Karma woman to embrace the desi drama queen in her…!!!

- How important is Social Media/ Bloggers pre, during and post these events.
They are the immediate pulse and extremely important in getting the look, the feel, the theme and ideology of the collection out there. They are a very strong present and the future...!!!
