Dior welcomes Raf Simons.

Dior says Simons will become the sixth designer to steer the 66-year-old haute-couture house.
The position of Christian Dior’s artistic director has been open ever since John Galliano was convicted for anti-Semitic remarks seven months ago. The fashion house dismissed Galliano just a few days before their March 2011 runway show, because he drunkenly insulted a customer at a cafe in Paris. A video captured his controversial remarks and subsequently went viral.
Who is Raf Simons? He's 44, and studied industrial design, not fashion design. His training, coupled with his work for Jil Sander, a house with a strong minimalist aesthetic, means that the adjective perhaps most commonly applied to his work by critics is "architectural." Two months ago, when Simons was ditched by the label Jil Sander, speculation that he would be in line for the job at Dior immediately followed. It took a while — and a few more turns of the rumor cycle — but today Simons says, "I feel fantastic. It is one of the ultimate challenges, and a dream to go to a place like Dior, which stands for absolute elegance, incredible femininity and utter luxury."

am super excited as the two aesthetics collide or merge so to say. Raf Simon's minimalistic and architectural approach with the glamour and noise of Dior! That is fashion marriage made in heaven. New designers taking over old loved labels is always so exciting. Valetino is well taken care of  and now for the first runway show this season by Dior, all eyes on it.
